celebration of June Teenth in Houston, Texas.
Juneteenth began in the great state of Texas when
Major General Gordon Granger of the Union Army led
his troops to the city of Galveston. On June
19, 1865, Major General Granger officially
proclaimed freedom for the slaves in the state of
Texas.
Our goal and mission is to embrace the history of the Emancipation Proclamation with the largest celebration of African-American families and ethnic diversity.
